Cartagena de Indias, the most winning Colombian city in 'The Oscars of Tourism 2022'

Cartagena de Indias was the city in Colombia with the most awards in the 29th version of the World Travel Awards, held on August 31 in the city of Sandals Montego Bay, Jamaica.

After the global pandemic by Covid-19, where the hardest hit industry was tourism, Colombia demonstrates its ability to adapt and recover. With more than 50 nominations and 14 total awards received, our country was recognized as one of the driving forces of the industry within the leading nations throughout the Caribbean and Americas regions.

On this occasion, and for the 5th consecutive time, Cartagena de Indias, took the long-awaited prize “South America's Leading Honeymoon Destination 2022” or “Leading Honeymoon Destination in South America 2022”, competing with cities such as Buenos Aires, Fernando de Noronha, Galapagos Islands, Paraty, Rio de Janeiro and San Carlos de Bariloche.

The walled city also achieved, for the third time in a row, the distinction “South America's Leading Cruise Port 2022”, a category in which it prevailed over cities such as Rio de Janeiro (Brazil); Buenos Aires, Argentina); Montevideo (Uruguay), and Valparaíso (Chile).

Similarly, La Heróica received for the third consecutive year the award for “South America's Leading Hotel” Y “Leading Hotel Suite in South America 2022” for the Sofitel Legend Santa Clara facilities while the Sofitel Barú Calablanca Beach Resort took the award to “New Leading Hotel in South America”.

It is also important to note that Colombia was recognized for having a “Leading Tourism Organization in South America”: ProColombia, the government agency in charge of “promoting Colombian exports, international tourism and foreign investment” in the country.
